Update 12.03.2020, 20:00 hours

FOLLOWING THE RECENT ANNOUNCEMENT BY THE MALTA GOVERNMENT THAT LOCAL SCHOOLS WILL BE CLOSED AS FROM TOMORROW, 13TH MARCH 2020, IN LIGHT OF THE CURRENT CORONAVIRUS SITUATION, ACE ENGLISH MALTA WILL BE CLOSING ITS SCHOOL PREMISES FROM TOMORROW, FRIDAY 13TH MARCH 2020 UNTIL 20TH MARCH 2020 (BOTH DAYS INCLUSIVE). THIS INFORMATION MAY CHANGE AT ANY TIME.
THERE ARE NO CONFIRMED CORONAVIRUS CASES WITHIN THE SCHOOL BUT THIS DECISION HAS BEEN TAKEN TO SAFEGUARD THE STUDENTS, THE TEACHERS, THE STAFF AND THEIR RESPECTIVE FAMILIES. WE WILL KEEP EVERYBODY UPDATED ONCE OTHER ANNOUNCEMENTS ARE MADE. WE APOLOGIZE FOR ANY INCONVENIENCE THIS MAY CAUSE BUT THE HEALTH AND SAFETY OF ALL AT ACE ENGLISH MALTA CONTINUES TO BE OUR FIRST PRIORITY.

In light of the current health hazards related to the coronavirus epidemic, it has been notified to us by the Malta Government Health Authorities that any person arriving in Malta from a high-risk country (countries listed hereunder) MUST undergo a MANDATORY-QUARANTINE period of 14 days before attending school. You are hereby being advised that WITH IMMEDIATE EFFECT AND UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE, any student arriving from these high-risk countries will not be allowed in school until the 14-day quarantine period from arrival has passed. Please note that any person who does not adhere to these conditions may face criminal charges at law. It is important that all persons in quarantine follow the instructions provided hereunder so as to limit as much as possible any possibility of risk.

Students who have booked school accommodation will be allowed to stay in their accommodation as long as the rules of quarantine are followed (see hereunder).

TRAVEL IN HIGH-RISK COUNTRIES & QUARANTINE
Persons entering Malta after having traveled (airport change flight consider) in any of the following countries at any time from 27 February 2020 onwards must spend 14 days in mandatory quarantine, which 14 days start from the last day that they were in any of these countries

  • Italy
  • China (including Hong Kong)
  • Singapore
  • Japan
  • Iran
  • South Korea

Persons entering Malta after having traveled (airport change flight consider) in any of the following countries at any time from 11 March 2020 onwards must spend 14 days in mandatory quarantine, which 14 days start from the last day that they were in any of these countries.

  • Spain
  • Germany
  • France
  • Switzerland

Both of the above are enforceable by law. Failures to observe this obligation will result in fines of €1,000 for each time the student will be caught not respecting those rules.

People who live in the same residence also need to observe quarantine. Tourists have to stay in their hotel rooms.

Since all the people who live in the same residence also need to observe quarantine for the same period of time, no one can leave the apartment before the quarantine is complete. If the person has finished the accommodation, they will need to extend and pay for it, terms & conditions apply.

If a student is worried about individuals who are not observing their mandatory quarantine period can report breaches to the health authorities by sending an email to disease.surveillance@gov.mt.

Please note the information above may change at any time, by a new announcement from the government.

In order to be admitted to class students will need to provide:

  • Flight Tickets

CANCELLATION OR POSTPONEMENT

IN HOUSE STUDENTS
Any lessons which a student will miss during the forced closure of the school, or during the quarantine period required by law, will be offered the same number of lessons which will have to be used within 2020 at no charge.
For those students who decide to cancel their course/accommodation voluntarily, our terms and conditions will apply. Only the course option may be postponed at NO charge as long as it is then utilised by end 2020.

NEW ARRIVALS
Since we recognise the current unexpected situation, postponement of any new arrival for any case related to the coronavirus will be offered at NO charge until further notice. In the case of a student cancellation, as per our terms and conditions, the school will apply the following conditions:

Force Majeure

In the event that ACE English Malta is unable to fulfill any of its obligations as a result of an event or events beyond ACE English Malta’s reasonable control, ACE English Malta will not accept responsibility or liability. Such events include, and are not limited to, terrorist attacks, war or the threat of war, riots, industrial action, failure of suppliers or subcontractors, labour disputes, natural or man-made disasters, unusually adverse weather conditions, or any other event or events that may classify Malta as an “at-risk destination” by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

In view of the above, any course bookings may be postponed by two weeks. Cancellation of course bookings will not be refunded.

No refunds will be provided for any accommodation which has been confirmed and which are postponed or cancelled within our terms and conditions cancellation policy:

Cancellation of a booking must be received in writing and is subject to the following cancellation fees:

  • More than 14 days before the start of the course: €100.00 Non-Refundable Deposit + €45.00 Registration Fee + Visa Administration Fee (where applicable)
  • Less than 14 days before the start of the course: 1 week’s course + 1 week’s accommodation (where applicable) + Registration Fee + Accommodation Reservation Fee + Visa Administration Fee (where applicable).

IMPORTANT

All international students who study at ACE English Malta are strongly encouraged to have adequate health and travel insurance. Students are advised to purchase insurance, including medical insurance, to cover all eventualities before leaving their own country. Students may be held liable for any loss, damage or injury to persons or property, no matter how this is caused.

Should a student be ill and require medical assistance, the School will do its utmost to help and will put the student in contact with a qualified doctor at a local pharmacy. The doctor will charge the student directly in cash. Prices for a home consultation visit are in the region of €20.00 to €30.00 per visit. The School should be notified in advance if a student has an existing medical condition, allergy, etc. It is strongly suggested that EU citizens get a European Health Insurance Card. If a student needs to take out additional insurance while in Malta this can be arranged by the School.

Please do not hesitate to contact us for anything you may need

Best Regards
ACE English Malta
